My Story

Hey there, I’m Marley! If you’ve met me, you already know that I’m a social butterfly who loves people. Whether it’s my keepers, zoo guests, or fans from around the world, I greet everyone with my signature vocalizations, and trust me, they’re very impressive. As part of the ambassador team at Moody Gardens, I make sure every visitor leaves with a deeper love for penguins and a little piece of my personality to remember.

One of my favorite activities is painting. Hopping across a canvas is not just enrichment for me, it’s art! I always inspect my masterpieces to make sure they meet my high standards, and through social media, my work has reached fans across the globe. I may be a penguin, but I’m also a certified international artist!

I share the spotlight with my twin brother, Hendrix. Though let’s be honest, I’m slightly more famous. What I don’t love? Loud Southern Rockhoppers. Some of us prefer a little peace while we’re making art!

As one of the few Northern Rockhoppers in North America, I have a special role in educating people about my species. Most guests will never see a penguin like me in person, and I take my job seriously—when I’m not busy painting, of course.

Why should I be your new peng-win champion? Well first off, over the course of the competition, I haven’t let all of this attention go to my head. Well, ok, maybe I have just a little. But you should know my basketball moves are like the pros. You should see me “Rocker Step” across the paint with my signature “Pro-hop” around others for that “Floater Layup” to bring “Nothing but Net” penguin awareness to all!

I’ve continued to be a great, long time ambassador for penguins, especially my fellow Northern rockhoppers. Some would even say I’m a pro! I want to make sure that everyone knows how amazing we are. Being a member of an endangered species, it’s important that I spread the news that we all need to be part of penguin conservation!
