Pebble

Humboldt Penguin

I’m Pebble, a 9-month-old penguin full of mischief and always up for some fun. Swimming is my favorite activity, and I’m the first one in the pool in the morning and the last one out in the evening. I may be a camera tease, but I always love showing off my best dive bomb back into the water.

I was named after the main character in a children’s book, and like my namesake, I have an important mission to help educate children about climate change and the importance of protecting penguins like me in the wild. But that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun and be a little mischievous too!

I’m also a beacon of hope for my zoo, being the first chick to hatch and survive past fledging since the lockdown. And I’m particularly special in our colony as the fourth generation of my family now living in the group. My mom, grandma, and great grand-penguins all share my enclosure, and we would all love to see me selected for March of the Penguin Madness.
