In memoriam, April 2023.

Our hearts go out to those who were impacted by the loss of Andre. May the memories of Andre bring comfort and peace to you and all those who loved and cherished him.

Hi there, I’m Andre, and I’ve had quite the journey so far! I was hatched in the biodome in Canada, where I spent my early years before making my way over to Living Coasts in Paignton, where I met my lovely partner Millie. We’ve been together for some time now, and we’re still as happy as ever. Unfortunately, Living Coasts had to close due to the pandemic, so we moved to Folly Farm in south west Wales with the rest of the Macaroni colony.

At 24 years old, I’m one of the oldest penguins here, and my age is starting to show. I have cataracts and am partially blind, but I still know my way around the enclosure and love spending my days finding a big flat rock to relax on with Millie. My keepers are very kind to me and even bring me breakfast in bed sometimes!

Despite my age and disability, I’m still a gentle and loveable penguin, and I’ve become quite the ambassador for my species. I love interacting with my keepers and visitors, and I hope to inspire others to care about and protect Macaroni Penguins.
