My Story
Hi everyone, I’m Tercera, and my story is all about teamwork! Before I had even hatched, zoos across the country were working together to give me the best start in life. I began as a very special egg at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio, and because of my genetic importance, the Humboldt Penguin Species Survival Plan (SSP) decided to send me to the Akron Zoo.
I hatched on March 3, 2024, into the loving care of my foster parents, Pez and Gabriella. They’ve successfully raised chicks before, and let me tell you, they know what they’re doing! Thanks to them, and the dedicated staff at the Akron Zoo, I’m thriving as the newest addition to the colony.
My journey proves that amazing things happen when people and institutions work together. Conservation, collaboration, and a lot of love made my story possible. Now, I’m ready to represent Humboldt penguins everywhere in March of the Penguin Madness!
