My Story

Hello, I’m Squid! I may be blind, but that hasn’t stopped me from thriving, especially with my best friend and guide penguin, Penguin, by my side. We’re an inseparable duo, proving that true friendship and support exist even in the animal kingdom.

I developed cataracts as a chick, leaving me with limited vision. Thankfully, I was never alone. Penguin, who was hand-reared after falling ill as a chick, stepped in to help me navigate my world. From guiding me around our home at Penguin Beach to making sure I get my fair share at feeding time, Penguin’s always got my back! Our bond is built on trust, patience, and a whole lot of personality, because let’s be honest, I’m no pushover. I may rely on Penguin, but I let everyone know that I’m a strong, independent bird. We won’t officially call me a diva, but… you get the idea.

Our story has touched hearts far beyond Birdworld, as our friendship has made headlines as far away as Japan! Beyond the fame, we’re inspiring keepers, guests, and the world to see that disabilities don’t always come with limits. I’m living proof that every penguin, no matter their challenges, can play a vital role in conservation, education, and, of course, stealing the hearts of everyone we meet.
