My Story
Oreo was a true icon—at 34 years old, he far outlived the average African penguin, a testament to the incredible care he received and the resilient spirit he carried. He spent his days doing what he loved most: swimming, watching the world go by (bugs and reflections were always a source of fascination), and, most importantly, caring for his beloved mate, Missy.
Even in his senior years, Oreo never stopped being the devoted partner he always was. He took his nest-building duties seriously, always on the lookout for the perfect materials to help Missy create a cozy home. His dedication and gentle nature made him a favorite among those who knew him.
Oreo’s long and happy life is a reminder of the impact that dedicated animal care and conservation efforts can have. He was more than just an ambassador for his species—he was a shining example of the love, care, and commitment that can help African penguins thrive. Though he may be gone, his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the ongoing efforts to protect his species.
