My Story

Hello, everyone. Mo here, and yes, I am the Harry Styles of the penguin world. With my dashing looks and just the right amount of mischief, I’ve been stealing hearts (and fish) since arriving at Penguin Cove as a chick in 2012.

Let’s talk about my acting range. If another penguin so much as brushes against me at feeding time, I will throw myself dramatically to the ground. Health check day? You won’t find me, as I’m a master at hiding. And when it comes to fish, I believe in the art of theft. I’ll snatch them keepers, guests, and even other penguins, then spit it out, just to keep things interesting.

Don’t let my flair for drama fool you, though. I’m a loyal guy at heart. For 11 years, my one and only has been Betty. She’s the love of my life, and while I do let her do most of the nest-building, I bring plenty of charm to the relationship.

My fans are as dedicated as I am fabulous. I won The National Aquarium of New Zealand’s “Penguin of the Year” award in 2021 and have been runner-up every other year from 2018-2024. But beyond the fame, I take my role as an ambassador seriously. Through encounters and conservation efforts, I help spread awareness about the challenges little penguins face in the wild.
