My Story
Hello there, I’m Goodyear. I might be known for my laid-back, easygoing nature most of the year, but when nesting season arrives, I transform into the fiercest protector of my nest. No penguin in the colony guards their home quite like me!
Life hasn’t always been easy. Due to an injury, I had to have my right eye removed, and later, I underwent cataract surgery in my left eye to ensure I wouldn’t lose my vision completely. But despite these challenges, I navigate my habitat like a pro, eat on my own, and even became a fantastic foster mom to little Pietro!
I’ve been with my amazing mate, Maynard, for over 10 years now. While an old flame from my past zoo joined the Jacksonville Zoo colony in 2020, I stayed loyal to my guy. The Inca terns that share our space are especially impressed with my confidence. Even when they stand on the side of my missing eye, I don’t hesitate to get close!
I may be sweet, but I’ve got plenty of spice, and I never let life’s challenges slow me down. I’m here to show the world that resilience, love, and a little fire can take you anywhere you want to go!
