My Story
Hi, I’m Atticus. Currently, I hold the title as the fluffiest, spunkiest, and most vocal 6-month-old King penguin at the Detroit Zoo! I hatched on August 19, 2024, and I’ve been growing fast behind the scenes at the Polk Penguin Conservation Center. In fact, I now weigh more than both of my parents, Chunk and K-25, tipping the scales at a whopping 16.10 kg (35.42 lbs)!
My parents are so good at raising chicks that I’m actually their second baby in two consecutive years. This is very uncommon for King penguins! Now that I’m a little more independent, they take well-deserved breaks to swim and socialize, while I keep myself busy hanging out with my zookeepers, playing with enrichment, and perfecting my vocal skills.
Speaking of my voice, I love to sing and whistle! My keepers have even heard me whistling in my sleep. After all, musical talent never truly rests. Every so often, I practice my “big boy” adult penguin voice, because let’s be honest—I’ve got champion potential.
I’m proud to represent the adorable fluffball penguins of the world, and I would love to take home the March of the Penguin Madness title!
